Today we went with Aunty Vicky to Little India for lunch and to walk around Mustafas--a 24-hour crazy department store with everything you can think of in it.
What was most curious was how each floor smelled differently. The jewelry one was not great, but the ground level floor was great. We didn't go to all the floors, but the basement was the craziest. Mom and Caroline went to go find a place to buy her a sim card for her phone so she can take it out to Thailand and the Philippines to meet up with Kate and Derek.
**what all triggered this adventure in the first place was these little mint pills that aunty vicky whipped out at lunch the other day..."says the aide in digestion." She got them from Mustafas.
Some Yakult--a yogurt drink we used to have all the time when we stayed in Singapore for summers as kids.
Lunch was an adventure. We went to this "highly praised" vegetarian indian restaurant where most people ate with their hands. We didn't really know what anything was on the menu so we asked the waitress for help and this was the result:
I forgot why, but Aunty Vicky wanted me to take a picture of this...and she thought it was boy...clearly a girl.
After lunch, mom and Aunty Vicky drove off somewhere, Caroline stayed and walked around little india and wes and jason went to Queensway. It took us a little while to get there, but we found the MRT station, took it to a stop near queensway and found a bus that took us there. We wanted to get bags for our passports and $$ for our Thailand trip.
someone new where it was at
After Queensway, we made our way to Orchard Road to find the bags we didn't end up buying in queensway, then took the MRT to Chinatown to meet the family for dinner at Beng Hiang, a restaurant that we know well since the last time we went, probably 6 years ago, the roof caved in during a thunderstorm while we were eating!
for dad!
fish maw soup--being the sac that fills up with air when the fish wants to float...or deflates when it wants to sink. hahaaaaa yeahhhh
suckling pig--they cut up a baby pig and roast it and you eat the fatty skin with sweet sauce and/or chili.
the tail looked like a rat...and aunty vicky wanted us to know where it came from (see napkin)
inside the head of the poor baby pig
oyster omelet
cai (some veg)
"these noodles, very famous you know?" - uncle john
YAM BASKET!
steamed buns, sooo good...
trying to get wesley's mouth to resemble steamed buns
pork that you eat with the steamed buns
Successful Monday including a lunch adventure, trekking over half of singapore looking for stuff, finally found Beng Hiang after asking 3 different people for directions (who gave us three different directions).
