Straight Chillin'

Today was a rainy day.  We just did the normal thing...eat...shop...eat...eat...tomorrow we will do some actual things, but today we just chilled.  Unfortunately we did not make it to the Night Safari, since we planned around a rainy day.  It actually cleared up a little after dinner which made it perfect weather for the Night Safari, but we'll try and go next week.  For those of you who don't know what that is, check this out: Singapore Night Safari.

Woke up, it was raining like this:
outside our grandmother's house

We went to Thompson Plaza for breakfast.  We used to love this place and the NTUC market that is there.

Only Americans pull in frontward to parking spaces...

There were sweet lights above the parking spots so you can easily tell where there are spaces (green) and where there are none (red).

We ate at the Kopitiam, here is the man making poh piah...we definitely think mom's is wayy better.

Jason's bfast = yong tau fu

Caroline's bfast = poh piah

Wesley's bfast = yong tau fu, stirring in da chili sauce

all the stuff you can choose to put in the yong tau fu like tofu, veggies, eggs, fish cakes and fish balls...stuffed things...etc.

they really put a lot of butter in the kaya toast...

After Thompson Plaza, we drove into town and walked around, mom went to Robinsons and we decided to "disperse" and meet up for a check in at 4pm.  We met at the Taka fountain and had a snack...

We decided to split up again and meet at the new Food Republic down the street.  We went to the bookstore to find the Hunger Games for Wes to read and Caroline went shopping for clothes somewhere else.

yam puff!

We ended up meeting at 6pm for dinner at the new Food Republic, it was pretty crazy with lots of stalls and good food.

"mix rice" they call it.

chicken rice.

After dinner, we went back home while Caroline stayed out to shop more.  We got back and suffered through a hill workout since it was pretty cool.  Tomorrow we're meeting Aunty Vicky for breakfast and will go to the Marina Bay Sands for the night and Caroline's birthday.  here is a little preview of where we will be staying... Until tomorrow...

The New Bloggers

Since we are the new bloggers now, we decided to try and do this every day!

The biggest part of the day was clearly seeing TRANSFORMERS!!!!  It was the best.  You should go see it if you haven't, and it's probable that your version will not have distracting chinese subtitles.

This is a sweet temple that we're staying by.  We pass in on our way out every day.  This morning we walked up to a hawker center to eat roti prata.  It was soooo hot and we were sweating immediately.

We got to the shop an ordered roti prata and murtabak.  Roti prata is an indian pancake that you eat with curry gravy, murtabak is the same pancake dough mixed and fried with egg and then filled with fried onions and chicken (or mutton).  yum!

After breakfast, Caroline and mom went off to the National Museum of Singapore to learn about history and do that sort of thing.  We took the bus home (yes, we have been taking the public busses this trip and it is working out well), relaxed a bit, then headed out to Orchard Road again to eat and buy MOVIE TICKETS to the sweetest movie ever.  We walked around Tangs and found some Fred Perry shoes that Wesley wanted and some Supras for Jason...too bad we didn't buy either of them.

Around 1:30 we met up with mom and Caroline for lunch and Sake Sushi, this Japanese chain conveyor belt sushi place in Wheelock Place we always go to when we come to Singapore.

Wesley's lunch...salmon don, soft shell crabs

After lunch we followed the women around as they shopped for bags.  We were waiting for the 3:20 showing of TRANSFORMERS!!!! After the movie, we took a picture of Wesley in front of a transformer...

we thought he was trying to be sad, but he was just trying to stop himself from laughing

anyone know how they do this??

After the movie, we walked around a bit to work up our dinner appetites, which we satisfied at Crystal Jade since cchow wasn't there when we went on the first day.

Jason made a dumpling look fancy and expensive...with chili oil

After dinner, we went back to the takashimaya food court to get icecream and then back to tangs to get a curry puff for caroline.  We came across this yummy treat as well...

NOT

Tomorrow we're planning on going to Thompson Plaza, a place we used to go a lot when we came to Singapore when we were younger.  Then perhaps the Night Safari?  Jackie Booth went there and loved it last week...we haven't been in 4 years so its about that time again. It's supposed to be rainy tomorrow though...hopefully it'll hold up.

Until tomorrow,

Caroline!

hand blog!

Our trusty sister Caroline arrived late last night on the same flight we took in.  In the morning, we got up around 6 something and waited for her to get up...she was very tired from a long plane ride.

Mims kept poking her head in every so often and coming in and flopping on the bed, probably very bored from just bumming around the house and taking long mid-day naps because she sucks at jetlag.

Jason and Caroline went running and Wesley took his new longboard for a spin on the streets of Sing Sing.  It was awfully humid and hot, but that was fully expected.  After that, mims and our aunt took us to the MRT station (mass rapid transit, subway) to top up our ez-cards so we can take all the public transportation with ease.

We took the train into town to...eat!  We went to the Food Republic because we wait to go until Caroline came.  She luvz it.

Caroline's first meal: Laksa!
(curry prawn soup with rice noodles, tofu, eggs, bean sprouts, chili, etc)

She also got rojak, which wasn't that good here, but it is really good at the Island Club
(cucumbers, fried doughy things, pineapple, radish, and peanuts in a shrimp paste)

Wesley had chicken rice.
(hainanese chicken rice, rice steamed with chicken broth and ginger and garlic and fat!, chicken, a soy sauce egg, bok choi, and chili and garlic and soup)
Jason had yong dao fu
(pick a bunch of different things like fish cake, tofu and veggies, and a kind of noodle, and then they cut them up and boil them in soup)

After lunch we walked around and saw this sweet (we think german?) pastry company that made roll things that look like kway lapis but wasn't.

The thing rotates while baking in a rotisserie-like machine

Then they cut it up once it's baked and put them into containers

"this is best looking car be a mile...by like, 1000 times"

After Orchard Road and some shopping for a bag and a scrap book for caroline, we took the MRT to Clarke Quay.  There was a very unfortunate event that occurred when we were rushing to catch the train.  Caroline was wearing flip flops and took a little tumble on the slick MRT station floor when trying to change directions!  Wes made the train with ease, Jason had to squeeze through the door, but Caroline missed the train and had to take the next one....

fatty bruise!

For dinner, we ate at central market, which is a small food court below the central shopping center that's across the river from Clarke Quay.  By this time, we were fading and ready to go home and sleep!

Sign on the MRT...no durian!
